Welcome to
The Great Kite Auction

Kite Reveals: from 27 October
Bidding starts: from 27 November

Inspired by an aspect of her new book Comes the Night, Isobelle Carmody has organised this beautiful creative event, designed to produce some wonderful art that highlights and celebrates some of Australia’s best known and loved illustrators and artists, while raising funds for Red Kite. This is a lovely,  long-standing and reputable charity that takes care of families dealing with childhood cancer. You can participate, either by bidding on the kites once they are all revealed, or by publicising the auction so we can reach as many people as possible! Come deeper in, to learn more:)

Introducing...the Kites

From today, October 27, when our special Hope Flies website goes live, we will be unveiling the kites one day at a time, below. The first to become visible is The Red Kite. We will reveal one Kite a day from now on, and so on until all are revealed. You only need to tap on any of the kites to learn about its maker. If you register, you will get a prompt when the auction goes live, so you can bid on your kite, or simply come back to see the new kites on display. The auction will be silent - this means you can bid without your name or the amount you bid showing on the site. You will be emailed individually and privately if another bid tops yours, in case you want to go higher. All bidders will receive a tax certificate allowing the amount to be claimed. The auction ends at midnight on December 5, following a final Gala event at the National Library Bookshop.

Make a donation

While we're waiting for the kite auction bidding to begin on 27th November, why not make a donation in the mean time?

Donate today

For more than 40 years, Redkite has been helping families hold it together when the child they love has cancer. Your support will ensure Redkite can be there with real financial, practical, and mental health support for families facing childhood cancer. Redkite provides counselling for parents and children as well as specialist social workers to help families cope with the challenges they face. They help cover day-to-day expenses such as bills, groceries, and fuel when parents are caring for their child and unable to work.

Isobelle has pledged to raise $5000, and every dollar donated helps to support a family facing childhood cancer.
